At Diamonds in the Community we are very proud to be the operator of the official Scottish branch of the KitAid Charity. KitAid is a charity based in the south of England and formed in 1998. The aim of the charity is very simple, to take old unwanted, no longer used sports kit and find them new homes to some of the most underprivileged areas around the world where football is loved but participation is held back by lack of access to kit & equipment.

IT'S MORE THAN JUST A SHIRT

HOW EXACTLY DOES KIDAID WORK?

KitAid has a very simple model, they take any old football or sports kit that are no longer needed or used and they distribute them to some of the most underprivileged areas in the world. They are gifted to local sports clubs, schools and organisations who use them to give local people the opportunity to participate primarily in football but also in other sports.

IMPACT

It is hard to put into words exactly how much these donated items of sportswear and equipment can change the lives of the individuals who receive them. KitAid founder Derrick Williams MBE has a saying "It's more than just a shirt"

A football shirt, full kit or boots can help the partner charities to engage with the communities they work in to deliver their projects. They vary from Education, Social Inclusion, Crime prevention, drug/alcohol misuse, protecting endangered chimpanzees from poachers and preventing gun related gang murders. The list is endless.

HOW DOES IT WORK IN AIRDRIE?

At Diamonds in the Community we simply repeat the model set out at KitAid HQ, we take all unwanted kit, sort and count it and source partner agencies who are looking to change the life's of individuals living in their communities on the other side of the world.
